So, now that I have the page (mostly) set up, the next step is to write something. That’s what bloggers do, right, write? (BA-HA, OMG, so funny. If you’re not at least smiling, too, clearly you’ve lost you’re childhood.) But honestly, how do I want to start? It’s not that I don’t have things that I could write about, but I don’t necessarily want to jump write into the woes of my life because, that’s not all that my life, and by extension this blog, is about. Therefore, I took a step back for a moment to figure out where I wanted to begin. And today I found it: Life Hacks.
To pull a Jerry Seinfeld, what’s the deal with all these life hacks? I cannot go a day without seeing at least one life hack feed on Facebook. At this point, if you don’t know that you can use a straw to take out the center of a strawberry and your dustpan to to put water into a bucket, you are not using the interwebs properly my friend. But here’s the thing, I eat a strawberry just fine my friends. I have it down to a science. And that dustpan trick looks a little hard to set up. I’ll stick to the hand held shower head that I can bring to the bucket. I get that there are things that are “hacks” that are useful, but I’m pretty sure they are the same things that our mom’s and grandma’s used before us until someone said “Hey, let’s bottle this, add chemical X, make it bubble more and now tell them it’s all in one.” And that appealed to the consumer. I think “kickin’ it old school” would probably be a better description. Because baking soda and vinegar have been around forever and Kaboom hasn’t. I’m just saying.
Here’s the other thing, people post life hacks (and food recipes) all over their Facebook feeds (you know who you are) but when are you going to use them? There’s so many! How will you remember? At least with Pinterest there is some organization to it, so you can at least try to go to a “life hacks” folder. But honestly, in the multitude of things out there, will you remember you pinned it in the first place? I feel like these things get lost in the feeds. I know many people views them, but is this a testament to how many people use them? I’d be curious to know. Especially since so many of them are reused from other “life hack” blogs, vlogs and videos.
And most importantly, where is the life hack that I need?! The reason that I watch these things is because I am still looking for the ones that I want. Where is “how to sort, wash, and hang your laundry in under five minutes”. All of it. For the whole house. Haven’t seen that one yet. Still on the look out for “dishes that are cleaned and put away with barely any effort”. Not no effort, just not a lot. How about “get your kids to stop yelling at each other, for no reason at all or in general”. Cuz crazy isn’t a good look for anyone, especially me. Of course the one I’m really holding our for “how to look completely and totally put together with only a hair tie and some deodorant” because sometimes that’s all I got. If anyone finds these, let me know. I’m holding out hope.
